Day trip from Chichester and Winchester (England)

Last weekend I hired a car and I went with a friend to these two lovely English cities situated not far from Portsmouth and Southampton  at the south of the country.

The first stop was at Chichester, where you can found a lovely cathedral who has free entrance and a lovely staff who are going to help you to discover this charming place. It was founded in the XI century and has fine architecture in both the Norman and the Gothic styles. It's plenty of bishops' tombs. You can enjoy as well the nice cafe at the gardens of the cathedral and buy something at the shop, a bit expensive in my opinion.

You have to pay the car park but it wasn't very expensive, it's better to arrive by train because the station is near to the town centre. You can find pubs, shops and restaurants. It is a beautiful place to visit, but just for few hours.

After that, we went to Winchester to visit the cathedral. It was bigger and more pretty than the Chichester's. I fall in love with the ceilings. Inside there you can find the tomb of Jane Austen the author of Pride and Prejudice. When we were there the choir was singing, it was a magical moment for us. The architecture is as the previous one, Norman and Gothic. I like more this city than Chichester because the atmosphere was more medieval, the streets, the houses, the walls, and because I think the cathedral is the main place of the town. The car park was more expensive than in the first one.

If you are in Sussex, please, visit both places and its surroundings.
